DENTON, Texas – The UNT men's golf team returns to action Monday at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La. Hosted at Oakbourne Country Club, a par-72, 6,898-yard layout, the tournament begins with 36 holes of play Monday before a closing 18 the following morning.
North Texas has been playing well since the start of the spring schedule, placing second in each of its last two tournaments. The most recent came at the Border Olympics where UNT shot even-par and led the field in birdies, a performance that elevated it into the top 100 of Scoreboard's Team Rankings.
The UNT lineup once again features Alex Huang, Blake Keen, Mitchell Maier, Noah Blaickner and Rayhan Latief, the same starting five from its two previous events. They will battle a competitive 16-team field that includes 29th-ranked Texas A&M, 48th-ranked Little Rock, Michigan, Illinois State, Oral Roberts, Texas State, East Tennessee State, Louisiana, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston, Lamar, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama and Southern Illinois.
All five Mean Green golfers finished in the top 25 last time out, led by a 1-over, 14th-place outing by Maier. Just a freshman, he has placed top 20 in four of his first six career starts. Blaickner and Latief were also crucial to UNT's strong effort as they both shot sub-70 third rounds to tie for 15th and 18th, respectively.
The No. 1 starter in every tournament so far this season, Huang leads the team with a 71.89 stroke average and three top 15 finishes. Behind him is Keen, a consistent presence who hasn't finished outside the top 20 since October 7.
The Louisiana Classics is scheduled to begin Monday with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. CT. Live results can be followed here, while Tuesday's third round will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
