UNT collects three home runs for 10th win at Lovelace Stadium this season
DENTON – Mean Green softball collected an 8-2 victory over Tarleton State in its final midweek contest of the season on Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium.
Head coach Cody White spoke to the importance of a bounce-back win after dropping an American Conference series at Memphis on Sunday.
"Being able to get back on the winning track and get back to who we are," White said. "So this was a big game, and we knew it was a big game coming in. We valued [this win] very highly."
UNT (27-21) improved to 13-0 when scoring eight or more runs this season as it exploded for three home runs against the Texans (31-18) in the first home midweek game since March 25.
Madison Conley opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with her 15th home run of the season to mark the highest single-season total for the Mean Green since 2022 when Kailey Gamble finished with 16. Conley tied for second in program history as she reached the 15-home run mark in 48 games, trailing only Gamble (2022) at 46 games.
Tarleton State leveled the score in the top half of the second before Elizabeth Moffitt dropped a two-run home run for her 12th of the season which gave North Texas a 3-1 advantage. The Texans pulled back one run in the fifth but stranded its fourth of six runners on base to end the frame.
The Mean Green took advantage as Ariah Mitchell drove in Blayze McNemar with an RBI single in the fifth before Conley collected a two-out RBI double to push the lead to 5-2.
Bradi Harman put the game out of reach with a three-run home run in the fifth which marked her fourth of the season and second at Lovelace Stadium.
Starting pitcher Anneca Anderson (W, 12-6) struck out seven batters over six innings pitched to match her third-highest total of the season and sixth-best mark of her career. Senior Britney Lewinski recorded a perfect seventh inning as she struck out the side in order and locked down the victory.
North Texas opens its final home series of the season against American Conference rivals Wichita State (27-15, 15-6) beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ while fans can purchase tickets HERE.
