DENTON, Texas – The UNT men's golf team begins the 2026-27 season this weekend at the Island Resort Intercollegiate in Bark River, Mich. Playing at Sage Run Golf Club, the 12-team field is set for 36 holes of action Sunday before a closing 18 the following morning.
Head coach Luke Calcatera enters his fourth season at the helm after guiding the Mean Green to a productive 2025-26 campaign that saw them finish runner-up twice and top four in four different tournaments. UNT ultimately completed the year ranked inside the top 100 for the first time since 2022.
North Texas returns four players from that squad in addition to adding three freshmen and a pair of experienced transfers over the offseason. The group of returners is headlined by Mitchell Maier, who was named the American Conference Freshman of the Year last spring. He led the Mean Green with a 72.67 stroke average, six top-20 finishes, five rounds in the 60s and 122 birdies.
Junior Blake Keen once again looks to play a crucial role as he enters his third year with the program. An all-conference performer in 2025, Keen boasts a 73.49 stroke average over 63 rounds throughout his career.
The Mean Green lineup for the season opener features Keen, Maier, sophomore Rayhan Latief, Long Island transfer Arjun Singh Bhatia and freshman Connor Bryce. Dion Regan, a fellow freshman from West Wales, will compete as an individual in his collegiate debut.
This weekend's field includes Ball State, Boise State, Kansas City, Marquette, Miami (OH), Michigan, Saint Mary's, UCF, VCU, West Virginia and tournament host South Dakota State. Competition begins at 6:30 a.m. CT both Sunday and Monday, and live results can be followed here.
