DENTONÂ -Â UNT softball will host its first home game of the 2022 season against Texas on Wednesday at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green are coming off a 4-1 weekend in Lubbock where they defeated another Big 12 opponent, Texas Tech, two out of three games in the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic.
North Texas was scheduled to play Texas in Austin on February 23 but inclement weather caused the game to be canceled.

HISTORY AGAINST OPPONENT

UNT has a 1-16 record against Texas all-time. The Mean Green's lone victory was 1-0 win over the No. 15 Longhorns on March 16, 2010 at Lovelace Stadium. At the time, it was the program's second-ever win over a ranked team.

In front of a record crowd, the Mean Green defeated Texas without posting a single hit and scored their only run on a wild pitch. Ashley Lail earned the win for North Texas, improving to 5-3 in the circle. She pitched 3.2 innings after relieving Jennifer Smith in the fourth inning. Smith and Lail combined for the shutout. Each pitcher allowed just four hits.
The last meeting between the two programs was a 5-1 victory by the Longhorns in Conroe, Texas, on February 21, 2021.
UNT's TOPÂ PERFORMERS
Sophomore outfielder Lexi Cobb hit her first two home runs of the season against Texas Tech last weekend to end the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic. Cobb finished with an incredible .769 (10-of-13) batting average, 10 hits, seven runs, three doubles, eight RBI, two home runs, and 19 total bases. For the season, Cobb is batting .433 (13-of-30) with nine runs, eight RBI, two home runs, and 22 total bases.

Senior infielder Tayla Evans added another two home runs to her season total while in Lubbock. Evans ended the weekend with a .571 batting average, six runs, one double, one triple, two homers, five RBI, and 17 total bases. On the year she is batting .378 (14-for-37) with 13 runs, four home runs, nine RBI,and 31 total bases.
Freshman RHP Skylar Savage led the Mean Green in pitching this weekend as she finished with a 2.40 ERA and played in all five games. Savage totaled 15.0 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts, including one complete game in her five appearances.

North Texas will travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to play its first conference series against Southern Mississippi. The first pitch will be Friday, March 11 at 6 pm at Southern Miss Softball Complex.
