Softball Takes AAC Series at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – UNT softball collected a pair of wins in a doubleheader over UTSA at Roadrunner Field on Friday. The Mean Green tallied a 10-8 victory in game one and won 6-1 in the second game to extend its American Athletic Conference winning streak to five games.
North Texas (15-11, 5-0) recorded its sixth and seventh consecutive wins over the Roadrunners (8-21, 0-5), a streak that dates back to 2022. Over that period, the Mean Green have outscored UTSA 64-to-23.
Mikayla Smith opened the first game with a pair of three-run home runs to total six RBI. She became the third player in UNT history with six or more RBI in a single game and the first since Hanna Rebar (2017-20) tallied six at LA Tech on March 23, 2019.
Kailey Gamble joined the home run party with a two-run shot for her third of the season.
In game one, Skylar Savage (W, 3-4) worked 3.0 innings in relief with four strikeouts while she allowed one run on one hit and three walks. The victory marked No. 25 of her UNT career.
Kalei Christensen finished a perfect 3-for-3 in game one with two RBI and two runs scored. With her two-run single in the first inning, she became the eighth player in program history to reach 100 RBI in her UNT career. Christensen capped the day with her first home run of the season in game two.
Game two starter Mackenzie Childers (W, 5-3) posted a new career high with 13 strikeouts over 7.0 innings. She allowed one run on three hits and three walks.
In her first two starts at UNT, senior Morgan Medford finished the day 4-for-8 with three runs scored and one RBI. She drew the starting role at second base in game one and third base in game two.
Kat Ibarra returned to UTSA and started both games in right field. At the plate, she registered a 3-for-6 line with two runs scored and one walk over two games.

Due to inclement weather in the San Antonio area, UNT and UTSA will finish its series on Sunday at 1 p.m. from Roadrunner Field. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
