Softball Tallies Season-High Hits in Conference Win

TAMPA, Fla. – UNT softball's offense broke out for a season-high mark in hits as it collected a 9-5 win over South Florida on Friday night at USF Softball Stadium.
North Texas (20-13, 9-2) had three batters match career-high marks with Molly Rainey and Lexi Cobb each collecting three hits and Saleen Donohoe reaching four RBI. USF (24-14, 4-7) failed to win consecutive American Athletic Conference games for the fourth time this season.
Mackenzie Childers (W, 8-4) relieved starter McKenzie Wagoner to open the third inning and struck out six over five innings. Childers allowed three runs on four hits and two walks.
In the first inning, Kailey Gamble and Rainey each drove two-RBI singles into the outfield grass for an early 4-0 lead.
The Mean Green posted four-plus runs in the first inning for the fifth time this season, first since scoring five runs at UTSA on March 15.
Both Gamble and Lexi Cobb broke into the top-10 in program history with 30 career doubles on Friday while Mikayla Smith tallied her eighth multi-hit game of the season. Smith extended her hitting streak to six games with a 2-for-4 performance.
Donohoe helped UNT pull away with an RBI in the fifth inning before slugging a three-run home run in the sixth.
Childers sat down the final six batters in order with three strikeouts to finish the game.
