EL PASO, Texas – UNT softball captured a 6-3 Conference USA win over UTEP on Thursday at Helen of Troy Field.
The Mean Green (22-16, 7-6) offense collected its highest hit total, nine, since it tallied 14 base knocks against UTSA on March 19. North Texas trailed the Miners (10-20, 2-8) in the opening frame but overcame the one-run deficit in the second.
Mikayla Smith led the charge as she finished 2-for-2 with three RBI including a two-run home run in the fourth inning. She has built on her single-season career-high mark with six home runs for second place on the team.
Starting pitcher Ashley Peters (W, 7-7) tallied her sixth complete game of the season. She spun 7.0 innings with six strikeouts and allowed one earned run on six hits and zero walks.
Cierra Simon recorded a 3-for-3 night and matched her career-high mark with three runs scored. She added her 30th career stolen base, a mark in which only six other players have reached in program history. Simon is 13-for-13 in stolen bases this season.
Lexi Cobb pushed the Mean Green into the lead with a lined single in the second inning to score Simon. Later in the game, Cobb collected her 16th stolen base of the season and moved into seventh place on the single-season list.
